Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
